NearPast Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
What We Collect
NearPast uses your device's location to show nearby historical monuments and send proximity alerts. Here is what we access and why:
- Location data — Used on-device to find monuments near you and trigger proximity alerts. Your location is never sent to our servers or any third party.
- Purchase history — Managed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We verify your subscription status on-device to unlock features. We do not store or transmit purchase details.
What We Don't Collect
- We do not collect personal information (name, email, phone).
- We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising SDKs.
- We do not share data with third parties.
- We do not create user accounts or require sign-in.
- We do not use cookies or fingerprinting.
On-Device Processing
All data processing happens locally on your iPhone:
- Monument data is embedded in the app and stored in a local database.
- Location matching and proximity alerts run entirely on-device.
- Visited site history is stored locally and never leaves your device.
- Trial status is stored in your device's Keychain.
- Text-to-speech narration is generated on-device using Apple's speech engine.
Third-Party Services
- Apple StoreKit — Handles in-app purchases and subscriptions. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Apple Maps — Used for the map display. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Google Maps — Optional deep-link for navigation only (opens Google Maps app if installed). No data is sent to Google from within our app.
Data Retention
Since all data stays on your device, deleting the app removes all stored data (visited sites, preferences). The trial timestamp stored in Keychain persists across reinstalls to prevent trial abuse.
Children's Privacy
NearPast does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require personal information to function.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
